Dr. Marren earned her Ph.D. in English from the University of Michigan, and she has been a member of the Department of English faculty at the University of Arkansas for more than 25 years, during which time she has taught a range of undergraduate and graduate courses focusing upon Modern American Literature, African American Literature, and Gender Studies. A recent course she has taught, at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, focused on the literature of slavery and its carceral afterlives.

Dr. Marren also serves as the Director of Graduate Studies for the English M.A. and English Ph.D. programs, and she has co-led the Theatre in London study abroad program for the past three summers.
